Step 1: Designing a slope into the lower framing is important.

Step 2: Install a lower bib and add sealant in the lower corners.

Step 3a: Apply GS100 "A" into lower corners.

Step3b: Apply GS100 "A" into lower corners.

Step 4a: The GS 100 "B" piece has a slight slope designed into it.

Step 4b: Trim the GS 100"B" piece with scissors to fold over the ouside wall. For some wall conditions this will not be necessary.

Step 4c: Press the GS 100"B" piece into place and add a staple to hold it in place.

Step 5a: Apply your waterproof membrane on top of the flashing corners. Run the membrane from stud to stud - no folding is necessary.

Step 5b: Tight, crisp corners are important, avoid wrinkles. No "origami" folding is necessary at the corners.

Step 5c: Trim the membrane to roll back onto the framing sill. This will create a membrane pan under the window.

Step 6a: Add sealant to the outside edges of the membrane to prevent water from traveling through "straws" and into the wall system.

Step 6b: The sealant should be tooled flat.

Step 7a: Flash the window using high quality flashing materials.

Step 7b: Lower flashing is important to prevent damage to the membrane.

Step 7c: Apply side flashing in a manner that covers the corners and creates a good drainage path.

Step 7d: Trim lower edges of the flashing with scissors to assist proper drainage.

Step 7e: Properly flashed rough opening is ready for the window.

Step 8: The window is installed with plenty of sealant at the nail fins.

Step 9: GS 100 "B" pieces are applied in the upper corners.

Step 10: GS 100 "A" pieces are applied in the upper corners.

Step 11: The first layer of flashing over the window is applied and run stud to stud.

Step 12a: The second layer of flashing is applied and trimmed to fold back to the nail fin.

Step 12b: A properly flashed recessed window.
